12 · Mixed Mastery
Choose the right method for any algebra question — the final mastery challenge.
What your child learns
- Decide: expand, collect, move terms or clear fractions?
- Solve multi-step equations confidently
- Always check your answer
Example
3(x + 1) = x + 11 → 2x = 8 → x = 4.
Mini lesson: Mixed Algebra Mastery
Goal: Choose the right method for any equation or expression.
- Are there brackets? Expand them.
- Like terms? Collect them.
- x on both sides? Move x terms together.
- Fractions? Multiply to clear them.
- Then solve with inverse operations and check.
Worked example
Solve 3(x + 1) = x + 11.
- Expand: 3x + 3 = x + 11
- Subtract x: 2x + 3 = 11
- Subtract 3: 2x = 8
- x = 4. Check: 3(5) = 15 and 4 + 11 = 15 ✔
Common mistakes
- Skipping the check.
- Rushing the signs.
